Info
Elin Marsh photographs the far north at the speed it moves: slowly, and mostly in silence.

Biography
She grew up on a stretch of coast where the tide went out further than you could walk, and learned to look at landscape the way you read weather: for small changes, over a long time. She studied printmaking before photography, and still thinks of a picture as something finished on paper rather than on a screen.
Her work is made over repeated visits to a handful of places in Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Finnish Lapland, often in the weeks of the year when there is very little light. She works with a tripod, long exposures and a great deal of waiting, and prints every edition herself on cotton and fibre papers.
Her four series, The Quiet Sea, White Hours, A Grammar of Fog and Kaamos, have been shown in galleries and photography festivals across northern Europe. She lives near the sea and keeps a small studio with a north-facing window, which she says is the only light she trusts.
